Fashion shouldn't come at the expense of the planet. Each year, millions of dresses are purchased for homecoming, prom, weddings, and other special occasions and only worn once. While the events create lasting memories, what we wear often has a much shorter lifespan.
The average synthetic dress contains 250 grams of plastic, the equivalent to up to 25 water bottles. This does not account for other resources required for production, like water and energy. It all adds up.
When clothing is only worn once, all of those resources are used for just a few hours before the cycle begins again.
Formal wear deserves more than one night out. By choosing to reuse instead of replace, we can all make an impact and look amazing while doing it. After all, wasn't Molly Ringwald the coolest girl at the prom?

Hi! I’m Jules, a senior and founder of re-formal. I created re-formal because I wanted to find a better way to think about formal wear and the environment.
My inspiration came from a pretty ordinary experience. While looking for a last-minute homecoming dress, I ended up at the back of long line of others doing the same thing. It made me stop and think: How many of these dresses might only be worn once? And how many others dresses were being bought for other events?
As someone who loves fashion but also cares deeply about the environment, I wanted to create a space that makes reusing, thrifting, repurposing, and re-wearing feel exciting and accessible.
I hope re-formal inspires people to get creative, shop differently, and most of all, wear it again!
